In this delightfully colorful and action-packed nonfiction tale by award-winning author Maria Gianferrari and illustrated by comic-star Maris Wicks, follow the Satin Bowerbird as he searches for the perfect welcome mat for his new home.

Just on the edge of the rainforest, between your house and the trees, Bowerbirds collect, pillage, and steal! They swoop through the air and creep around the forest floor, searching for pretty objects everywhere.

The Satin Bowerbird, with his striking blue-black plumage and vivid cerulean eyes, is on a mission. He has recently found the perfect spot to build his bower, a meticulously crafted structure made of twigs and decorated with an array of colorful items. Now, he must find the ideal welcome mat to complete his new home.

Bowers are essential for bowerbirds, as they use them to attract potential mates. The male bowerbird spends countless hours carefully constructing and decorating his bower, hoping to impress a female with his impeccable taste and attention to detail.

As the Satin Bowerbird flits from one end of the forest to the other, he keeps a keen eye out for anything that might catch his fancy. Shiny bottle caps, vibrant feathers, and even discarded human trinkets all catch his discerning eye. He expertly gathers and arranges these items, creating a mesmerizing display that is sure to captivate any passing female.

The Satin Bowerbird's search is not an easy one, however. He must compete with other male bowerbirds, each vying for the attention of the same limited pool of females. The competition is fierce, and the Satin Bowerbird must use all of his skills and creativity to outshine his rivals.

As he scours the forest floor, the Satin Bowerbird encounters a variety of other creatures, from the brightly colored parrots swooping overhead to the scurrying insects that dart between the fallen leaves. He must be ever vigilant, as some of these animals may view his carefully crafted bower as a potential source of food or nesting material.

But the Satin Bowerbird is undeterred. He continues his search, his eyes scanning the ground and the surrounding foliage for the perfect addition to his bower. Finally, he spots it – a vibrant blue feather, shimmering in the dappled sunlight. Grasping it carefully in his beak, he returns to his bower, adding it to the growing collection of treasures.

With each new item he adds, the Satin Bowerbird's bower becomes more and more impressive. The colors and textures of the various objects he has gathered create a mesmerizing display, one that is sure to catch the eye of any passing female bowerbird.

As the sun begins to set, the Satin Bowerbird steps back to admire his handiwork. He knows that his work is not yet done, but for now, he is content. He has created a stunning home, one that will surely draw the attention of a potential mate. And as the darkness falls, he settles in to wait, his eyes scanning the forest for the first sign of a female bowerbird.
